Is Fast Food the New Tobacco?

Smoke too much tobacco, you might develop cancer and die. Eat too much fast food, you become obese and possibly die. Is fast food the new tobacco? YES. Highly addictive, easy to obtain, fast food can definitely do as much damage as tobacco has.

Even though we would be better off without fast food, it is so hard to knock it. Coming from someone who in the past has eaten fast food like I was being sponsored by them, it's just too good to completely let go. Although the thought of some fast food restaurants makes my stomach turn, such as Burger King and KFC, I have my favorites that I just can't get enough of. Why is that?

Fast food has become so convenient. Especially in the more urban areas everywhere you turn there is at least a McDonald's, Wendy's or Popeyes. I literally have all three of these places within a 1.5 miles radius of my home. Saving money is another reason why fast food is the more likely choice of someone who doesn't want to spend too much on breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can get meals from these places and spend less than $10 and be full.

In an article titled 7 Reasons We Can't Turn Down Fast Food by Joshua Gowin who has a PHd, he stated "our brains evolved during a time when food was scarce, so we became adept at choosing foods that packed calories." So the reason humans prefer to eat so much fast food can be seen as a psychological thing and not just because it's something we crave.

The government doesn't necessary have much to do with the hold that fast food has on this country. It should be seen as a personal responsibility because fast food is just one of the numerous options of foods we can choose from. We as a people just prefer to eat fast food. We cannot place the blame on the government.

  1. Jada,

You have good ideas and you make great connections! Urban areas do make it quite difficult to avoid fast food when there is always a quick bite around the corner. On the other hand, you need to build on the text a bit more. You have a great quote, but what does it mean? How can you expand on it to relate it to the essential question: "Is Fast Food the New Tobacco?" Additionally, you do not meet the word requirement or include any supplementary images. Be sure to have 500-750 words for blogs and some images to support your blog! Overall, good effort!
